BENNY TO THE RESCUE

Gregory was rudely awaken by the crashing of trees and the splitting of wood.  He sat up cautiously on his leaf-bed then slowly edged his way to his den door.  He perked his ears to catch the morning sounds. All he heard was the droning of motors and the crashing of trees. With each crash the forest floor shook, and Gregory with it.  Slowly he made his way  to his cousin Beatrice's den. She was sitting at the door, with one ear perked to the sounds. She too had been awaken by the

shakes, splits and crashes.

"What could it be?" questioned a very nervous Beatrice.  "I'm not sure Beat., but I'm going to find out!" assured Greg.  "Oh, do be careful Greg, it sounds awful, like the end of the world!" cried Beatrice as she ducked into her den at the sound of yet another," CRASH"  "I sure will."  With that Greg was off winding his way through fallen trees and upturned earth toward the ever-deafening sound.  As the noise got louder Gregory got slower. He certainly didn't want to find out too fast, it was scary.  Then he saw them!!!  Machines with giant arms, big teeth and crunching wheels were

moving ground and flattening hills.

A big section of the forest was simply GONE!!!  In the spot were cages of animals.  There were birds, dogs, donkeys and something Greg had never seen before.  It had long arms, a long tail, cute furry ears and just furry all over.  Over the door a sign said, 'Benny'.  "Certainly no one from this part of the forest."  Gregory located a big sign:

SOON OPENING
BRENTWOOD ANIMAL PARK
SET IN THE NATURAL BEAUTY  OF
BRENTWOOD FOREST

"Well, it did have natural beauty, now what am I suppose to do?"  How can they put a park right here? thought Greg as he ran back.  Just over the hill there was a whole  community of ground- hogs.  This was their home...how could they do this???  Gregory explained everything to Beatrice.  "It is terrible, simply terrible. what are we to do...where are we to go...what about our families???  Beatrice was just beside herself....she lay down in her den and let out a huge

SIGH......

"Beat, listen up, we know that our Heavenly Father looks after the little sparrows, His Word says so."  "We know that He looks after His children."  "I'm sure that He will take care of us."  "He will show us a way out of this situation."  "Don't worry."  "Alright Gregory, I do trust our Heavenly Father and I know you trust Him so I'll relax and

let Him take care of this situation.

During the night the sky darkened with clouds, thunder rolled, and lightening flashed through the trees.  The park area was lit up over and over with violent flashes of lightening.  One strike hit the cage of the strange animal that Gregory did not recognize.  The cage was broken and the frightened critter scurried off to the trees, and up into the safety of the branches.  The next morning the sky had cleared and the men were back at work.  They noticed that the monkey cage was in ruins.

Precious Benny was gone!!

"We have to get that monkey back!" ordered the job foreman.  "He is specially trained, and the star of the park"  The job foreman ordered his men to search for Benny.  Benny was safe, but out of sight. He had had enough noise and definitely enough of that cage!!  He was used to pulling pranks and swinging around his large arena at his old park.  He certainly was in no hurry to get back in a cage.  When he heard his name being called he stayed well out of sight.  When the coast was clear Benny came out of the tree and scampered along the forest floor looking for something to eat. Before he new it he was lost and lonely.

"Hey there, who are you?"

Beatrice had come out of her den, to find Benny sitting right at her door. She had left some scraps from supper and Benny had found them.  "Oh, I'm sorry, am I in your way?" apologized a very polite Benny.  "Well yes, you are, and who, or what are you?" asked Beat.  "I am Benny, I am a spider monkey."   "I am from Willow park, and I am to be the star attraction at the new park that is being built."  "My cage was broken in the storm last night, I came to the trees for shelter and I have been looking for food. I was wandering around and now I'm afraid I am lost."  "Well, if that isn't the end!" exclaimed Beatrice.  "First, you are from THAT PARK, that is nearly destroying our homes and then you come and take the food right off my doorstep...well if that isn't the end....I'll bet you just get laughs...."

"Wait just a second."

"What are you talking about? I nearly got fried in the storm, then I nearly drowned, then I nearly starved."  Before Benny could go any farther, Gregory came down the path from his den.  "Hey, you are from the park, I saw you in one of the cages, what are you doing here?  "Well, as I was trying to explain....  Oh, please forgive me, I am so sorry for being in your way.  I was just lost tired and hungry. I'll just go back, I'm sure I can fix something to make my boring wait in the cage bearable. I can do all kinds of tricks, that is what I am trained for."  "Just a minuet, did you say tricks? What kind of tricks can you do?" asked Gregory, who had that look.

He had a plan.

"Oh I can do all sorts of things. I can tie ropes, pull cords, push buttons, climb, swing and well just all kinds of things." explained Benny, getting a bit wrapped up in his own importance.  "Well, if you are so sorry, as you were saying, maybe you could help us." began Greg, his plan hatching out as he spoke.  "You see, the men are preparing to blast our hill. They have fuses set in dynamite at this moment, I just came from there and they are going to destroy our whole community." Gregory went on with his explanation getting more excited with each word.  "If you could pull those fuses before they blast they will have to stop. Then they will have to come up here to see what is messing things up. If they do that we could all come out of our dens and chatter and let them know we are here. What do you think...could you help us?

"Sounds good to me"

With that Benny was off to the base of the hill, utterly surprised as how close he was to the park, after thinking he was so lost. Benny scampered from blast-hole to blast-hole pulling the fuses as he went.  When he was all done he headed back to Greg and Beatrice.  "There, that should stop them" said Benny, quite out of breath.  "Thanks, you are just the answer from our Heavenly Father that we were needing."  Gregory explained that they did not know what to do and that they were going to simply trust that God would look after them.

"And He did!"

Gregory alerted all of the ground hogs to be ready outside their dens to make their presence known.  Back at the park-site the crew was ready to blast.  5,4,3,2,1.....  then...nothing  "What's going on here?" questioned the foreman.  He left the site and headed to the hill.  As he neared the blast-holes, Benny jumped from his spot and ran to the crest, chattering and jumping the best he could, he got the man's attention.  "Hey you crazy monkey, get back here. The man ran after Benny and there, to his surprise, chattering full volume, was largest community of groundhogs he had ever seen.  There sitting amongst them was Benny, with a fist-full of fuses.  "Well I guess I found my problem. Okay Benny, your friends are safe. It is clear that we will have to re-think this part of the park. This area is definitely taken." chuckled the foreman.  Benny scampered to the man.

"Trust God", he chattered to them.

So if you are ever visiting Brentwood Animal Park, take a look over the hill.   Don't be surprised if you see a furry spider- monkey playing tag with a bunch of ground hogs!!
